It is inconceivable for any one of us to consider ourselves as anything more than just a printed footnote on the universe’s perpetual narrative. We are nothing. In the vast indifference of the world our actions cannot even be described as causing a ripple in a body of water whose depth and direction are so limitless they are cyclical by design. We are the insignificant.
Do not despair though for all is not lost. In each of us we possess the rare ability to feel anything we wish to at any given moment; hope and sorrow, hatred and love. Even when the world around us appears to crumble and the oppression becomes unbearable we can simply look inside ourselves with contented eyes knowing there will always be a part of our being that is so incorruptible, so pure, that in the end nothing else seems consequential any more.
It is within these moments that we truly feel emancipated from the restrictions we put upon ourselves every day. I believe that we are all hiding our true face, fearing its reception, living in overwhelming trepidation of being perceived as different. We are all different, that is a given fact, and until we embrace ourselves for all that we are we cannot expect others to do the same. So pull down the walls you build to hide away from the world and show me who you truly are. In time, I too will do the same.
